Ponte Vecchio

Ponte Vecchio, a medieval stone arch bridge, is the earliest bridge across the Arno in Florence. The original bridge dated from Roman times but was destroyed due to flooding and it was rebuilt later. It's lined with shops, originally grocers, butchers and fishmongers but now it's mostly jewellers. I took this picture from a vantage point, the Uffizi gallery windows, which overlooks the river and the bridge.
