On Sunday I went to Potsdamer Platz to the Gemaldegalerie Museum which has one of the largest collections of European art from 13th to 18th century. It's a vast collection and so I decided to just look at some of the Spanish, German and Dutch painters, and four which stood out were Vermeer, Hans Holbein, Rembrandt van Rijn and El Greco. There were a number of self portraits by Rembrandt and he painted and drew at least 60 self-portraits during his lifetime (selfies come to mind :)
I decided to do a drawing of details from one of Hans Holbein's paintings, "Merchant Georg Giese". (see below). Later I went to a print and drawing exhibition which was also in the gallery.
The Sony Centre is close by so afterwards I went to see Star Trek 3 (in English) and was very impressed - excellent CGI, good story and it brought back a certain nostalgia for the original Star Trek TV series.
